Our Projects
ICAN Parliamentary Pledge
The ICAN Parliamentary Pledge is for Members of Parliament around the world to pledge their commitment to work for signing and ratifying the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Kakuwaka promotes the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge, as we became an ICAN partner on March 29, 2019.
A list of parliamentarians around the world who have signed the pledge can be found here.
Election Candidate Questionnaire
Each time there is an election either in Hiroshima or nationwide, Kakuwaka conducts a nuclear policy survey asking candidates their thoughts on the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). The responses we receive are made into images and published on our website and social media.
Advocacy for Policymakers
In addition to meetings with parliamentarians, Kakuwaka takes action for a nuclear-free world to Parliament and the Prime Minister. In June 2022, we submitted a petition to Parliament calling for the Prime Minister's participation as an observer at the first Meeting of States Parties to the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).
Voices from Hiroshima
Hiroshima is taking action to bring our voice to the world. On April 10, about 750 people gathered around the A-bomb Dome in Hiroshima to call for Russia to oppose war and ban the use of nuclear weapons, and to pray for peace in Ukraine.
